Thanksgiving cooking itinerary for 10 people or more

November 29, 2020

We celebrated a wonderful Thanksgiving at our house this year! After a long 11 months, it felt so great to have our extended family together again.

Hereโ€™s my Thanksgiving/holiday cooking itinerary- I try to line this out in advance, so that I know what should be worked on when. Your oven may differ, so check on your food often. ๐Ÿ™‚

1. Three hours before dinner time: Rolls out to thaw and rise. Preheat oven.

2. Place smoked fully cooked turkey in oven to warm for about 3 hours.

3. Add green beans to CrockPot and set on high.

4. Set table. Prepare glasses, napkins, plates, serving utensils, and silverware. Prepare bowl or ice chest of extra ice for drinks.

5. 2 hours before dinner: Peel and cook mashed potatoes in Instant Pot for 20 min. on manual. Set out any finger-food appetizers or pre-dinner drinks for guests along with small serving plates and napkins.

6. 1.5 hours before dinner: Put dressing in oven to cook for 1 hour at 350. Cook any fresh pasta dishes.

7. Prepare fresh salads/ trays.

8.ย Put desserts on trays for dessert buffet bar.

9. 30 min before dinner: pull out turkey to cool. Hand blend or mash potatoes and add butter and milk.

10. 25 min before: Put rolls in oven at correct temperature.

11. Carve turkey and separate white meat and dark meat into two large dishes.

12. Remove rolls from oven and butter.

13. Set up buffet, gather crew, give thanks to God together, and serve dinner. ๐Ÿ™‚

While I wasnโ€™t quite this specific in my own planning this year, this was very close to what I did in the order I did it, and it worked so well. I hope this kind of itinerary might help us both next year. ๐Ÿ™‚

the Light of Christmas

November 23, 2020

Our Christmas lights are officially up!! So thankful for this coming time of year when I can go into a store or restaurant and hear songs about Jesus saving us from our sin! Oh, what a gift it is to live in such a time and place where we can celebrate the birth of Christ, the very Light of the World! ๐Ÿ™‚

a simple gift

November 19, 2020

A sweet gym member made me this delicious lemon curd! In a world where it seems we are having to separate from each other more and more, she loved me and shared her home with me through a simple gift. I want to be more like her.

DIY rainbow ornament makeover

November 17, 2020

So I painted ornaments this weekendโ€ฆ ๐Ÿ˜€

I had several very old, scratched plastic ornaments (and a couple new silver ones) that just needed a little bit of acrylic paint to feel new again:

Just a little bit of effort, and they magically transformed into these lovelies:

The color pattern was inspired by this felt garland from World Market:

I used bamboo skewers to hold the ornament while I painted them, then placed them in a faux potted plant to dry. It took several hours to paint them all by hand, but I was quite happy with the end result! ๐Ÿ™‚

is it too early?

November 13, 2020

Is it too early for bottle brush trees? ๐Ÿ˜€ Itโ€™s only November 12, but Iโ€™m ready to deck the halls! ๐Ÿ˜€

I found all of these at Target this year if youโ€™re looking for some too. ๐Ÿ˜€

Voting in 2020.

November 4, 2020

2020 US voting is done! Thanks to new technology, it was simpler and faster to vote this year. ๐Ÿ˜€

I voted on Election Day yesterday, and more than 24 hours later we still do not have a winner. Itโ€™s the first time (ever?) that I can remember a candidate not being chosen by the next morning. 2020 has been quite the unexpected year for most of us, and it looks like the election is not an exception! ๐Ÿ™‚ However unexpected, we know God is in control, and we are trusting in Him that whatever happens is for the good of those who believe in Jesus (Romans 8:28).

a weekend getaway + an Indian fave

November 3, 2020

This weekend we had the chance to get away for a night to celebrate my birthday. I visited my very favorite store, Anthropologie and had THE best time! We perused the aisles for some time as I decided how to use my birthday coupon. ๐Ÿ˜€

We also did something weโ€™ve never done: we ordered room service at the Sheraton. We actually bought salads to eat but mine was kind of terrible so we ordered from the hotel and were delightfully surprised. The food was hot and fresh, and very tasty.

Food was the theme of the weekend; when we went to lunch on Sunday morning, we were so happy to find an Indian buffet at Spice Creations in Allen (my favorite!). I loved the tandoori chicken, the goat masala, and the pakoras.

The fresh fruit was the perfect ending to our meal. I am already looking forward to going back again!

Birthday weekends are the best. ๐Ÿ˜€
